The Spark of 3D Printing Technology in the Age of Surgical Robots


The outstanding advantage of 3D printing lies in additive manufacturing. The aided design model is calculated using digital data according to the required shape and size, and then manufactured. Its advantages in rapid prototyping manufacturing of complex structures and the popularization of 3D printing technology reduce its printing cost, and its personalized and refined printing technology allows it to boast unique advantages in the medical field. Especially in the era of robotic surgery, it is expensive to use wet models such as animals for training. Surgeries are of high cost, questionable in terms of ethics and safety, and pathological structures can not be simulated, resulting in extremely low-cost performance. However, 3D printing technology, with its unique advantages (individuation, refinement) and rapid production, just meets the needs of robot surgery training, and its combination with hydrogel has further opened up the future of surgery training. Previous surgical training models used silica gel, but its physical and chemical properties and feedback limitations made it unable to completely simulate surgical scenes. However, hydrogel, a hydrophilic polymer, not only has physiological characteristics similar to biological tissues and organs, but also shows good instrument feedback. In addition, the wet and soft characteristics of hydrogel determine its adaptability to the additive manufacturing method of 3D printing. Personalized, fast and refined 3D printing technology uses hydrogel materials to make highly realistic tissue and organ models and apply them to surgical robot surgery training. In the future, the 3D printing model will replace the previous biological model, change the mode of surgical training, become a new type of surgical training, improve the current situation of surgeon robot surgery training, and occupy the highland!

Standing Committee of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Committee of Chinese Medical Doctor Association and China Science and Technology Industry Association and Vice Chairman of Youth Committee, deputy head of esophageal hiatal hernia and gastroesophageal reflux professional group of Hernia and Abdominal Wall Industry and Clinical Research Branch of China Health Industry Enterprise Management Association, member of Weight Loss Metabolic Surgery Special Committee of Chinese Research Hospital Association, member of Robot Surgery Special Committee of Surgery Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, member of Elite Group of Chinese Journal of Digestive Surgery, etc. The first Chinese doctor to obtain the certificate of surgical robot surgeon in the United States, served as the editorial board member of Chinese Journal of Minimally Invasive Surgery and other journals, and demonstrated surgery at many domestic academic conferences. In scientific research, he focused on researching and developing 3D printing models for surgical training, training system construction and achievement transformation, presided over key research and development projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology and major science and technology projects in Zhejiang Province, and won many awards such as the 2020 Zhejiang Science and Technology Progress Award as the first complete person.
