Recently, the logo that Wu Weichen and his team at the China Academy of Art designed for the World Young Scientists Summit won the international Red Dot Design Award for Brand Communication Design. The summit’s spirit and innovative concept has been recognized by the international design community.
The Red Dot Design Award was established by a renowned German design association and has a history of over 60 years. The Red Dot Award is recognized as an international recognition of creativity and design, and is often dubbed the “Oscars of Design”. Designer Wu Weichen said that he is honored to be invited to design the logo for the event. The design team carefully studied the summit's characteristics and positioning, repeatedly referenced works of domestic and foreign designers, and had many exchanges with the organizers of the summit. The design team made dozens of revisions in order to get a logo design that is the best of the best. Wu believes that winning this international communication design award is not only recognition of the designer's work, but also support for the innovation and scientific spirit championed by the summit, and that the award will help propel the summit to the world stage and become part of Zhejiang’s internationally influential brand.
At the same time, Wu Weichen interpreted the concepts that went into designing the summit logo.
The logo is a ring around the capital letter Y to represent “youth”, signifying the concept of young talents around the world coming together for the common good. The overlapping letter Y looks like pairs of tightly held hands, while the ring it forms seems like an insightful eye that gazes at the world and into the future. The structure of the logo is like a tree that makes a forest, with summits of international influence as branches that carry generations of young talents in science and technology to continue to pave the way and innovate.
