Environmental Research 2021
Towards carbon-neutral sustainable development in China
IOP Publishing's virtual conference, Environmental Research 2021 (https://ioppublishing.org/er-2021/) takes place at a critical time as the world tries to find global solutions to issues aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. It will be one of the first major international scientific events taking place after COP26, providing the perfect platform to discuss key aspects from the world leaders’ talks.

How to achieve economically and environmentally sustainable carbon neutrality, including the effects of various potential pathways, remains a crucial question to be answered. As a satellite event to the forthcoming Environmental Research 2021 virtual conference, this workshop will offer an interdisciplinary forum to discuss impacts of climate change, Earth system interactions, biogeochemical cycles, inter-regional connections, and potential pathways towards carbon neutrality of China.

Changes in climate and atmospheric environment are among the most pressing challenges the world is facing. China is a major country of emissions and carbon sink, and its future development towards carbon neutrality will not only mean fundamental changes in its carbon emissions and sinks but also have tremendous effects on its atmospheric environment and global climate.
An invited special issue covering the theme of the workshop will be published in Environmental Research Letters (ERL).
Environmental Research Letters Focus Issue:
Environmental Research 2021 is aligned with IOP Publishing’s expanding Environmental Research series of open access journals that currently include Environmental Research Letters, Environmental Research Communications and Environmental Research: Infrastructure and Sustainability, Progress in Energy and IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science. Look out for the launch of three more additions to the series in 2021.
